Can you keep a secret? Suzuki has only released a teaser, but if the rumours floating around are anything to go by, there could be something rather exciting headed for our shores.

The name doing the rounds? The Suzuki Across.

Insiders suggest this big boy could become the brand’s new flagship SUV, potentially slotting in above the ever-popular Suzuki Grand Vitara.

The experts suggest the Suzuki Across is built on the same Global C platform as the Grand Vitara but with a slightly larger footprint. It’s believed to measure around 4,360 mm in length, making it about 15 mm longer and a touch taller. That subtle increase could translate into a more commanding presence on the road and perhaps even a bit more space inside. Still firmly in the compact SUV category, yes, but possibly with a more premium edge.

Under the bonnet, early expectations suggest a 1.5-litre engine for South African models. It’s a familiar formula from Suzuki: sensible power paired with strong fuel efficiency. For drivers who occasionally trade tar for gravel, select models are expected to offer all-wheel drive, adding a bit of extra capability when conditions get tricky.

But the real story might be inside the cabin.

Even the entry GL model is expected to arrive fairly well equipped, while the GLX version takes things into noticeably more premium territory. A 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto should keep everything connected, paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that gives the interior a modern, tech-forward feel.

Move up to the GLX, and the feature list grows quickly. A 360-degree camera system helps with tight parking situations, while an 8-speaker Infinity by Harman sound system promises to make long drives a little more enjoyable. Add in a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats for those scorching summer days, and a powered tailgate with gesture control, and suddenly the Across starts sounding like a seriously comfortable family SUV.

So while Suzuki is still keeping the finer details under wraps, one thing is clear: something brilliant is on the way. Stay tuned for more details from Suzuki Johannesburg South.
